Our Founder

In Hyuk Suh is the founder, Grandmaster and President of the World Kuk Sool Association®. He has studied martial arts
for more than 50 years, receiving his first instruction from his grandfather, Myung Deuk Suh, a master-instructor to the Korean
Royal Court. After his grandfather's death, he traveled throughout the Far East seeking out and studying additional aspects
of the martial arts.
The knowledge he acquired from his grandfather and subsequent masters enabled him to establish Kuk Sool Won™. His
organization now boasts 1.3 million members with over 800 schools worldwide in 27 different countries. Although expert in
every aspect of martial arts, Grandmaster Suh is especially renowned for his mastery of pressure point and joint manipulation.
Additionally, Kuk Sool Won™ has been mentioned in over 300 articles and featured on more than 60 front covers by
world famous magazines in the United States, England, Spain, Iran, Germany, Mexico, and Venezuela. While the following list
of accomplishments include items accrued not only by himself but by the organizations he founded, the reason for this can
be found in the excerpt below, taken from the “Letter from the Grandmaster” which is written to all practitioners
of Kuk Sool Won™ and located in the front of the Textbooks he provided as an aid to understanding such a unique and
comprehensive martial art.
Our History
The three branches of traditional Korean martial arts: SahDoh MuSool, BoolKyo MuSool, and KoongJoong MuSool, were organized
to form a single system known as Kuk Sool in 1958 by In-hyuk Suh, the founder and Grandmaster of Kuk Sool Won™.
Kuk
Sool has countless techniques derived from the three branches of traditional Korean martial arts and is structured to take
a practitioner in a logical progression from the beginning all the way up to Master level.
Kuk Sool Won™ has
been actively promoted worldwide by the World Kuk Sool Association®, and it is also recognized in the martial arts community
as one of the most effective and comprehensive systems of traditional Korean martial arts in existence today.
Our Style
Kuk Sool Won is a comprehensive martial arts system that is derived from the
rich and varied martial arts techniques and traditions that have arisen in Korea through the ages. Kuk Sool is not a sport,
nor is it simply another oriental self defense method. Kuk Sool is a complete martial art that is dedicated to the cultivation
of mental strength and well being and to the preservation of traditional Korean Martial Arts.
The basis of Kuk Sool is the development and use of ‘Ki’
(internal power). Therefore Kuk Sool is considered an internal martial art system. However, to classify Kuk Sool under any
one name is incorrect due to it's vastness.
For
self defense, Kuk Sool is unsurpassed. It combines kicking, punching, throwing, falling, choking,
joint locking and a myriad of weapons techniques into a beautiful and dynamic ‘hard-soft’ style, emphasizing speed
and fluidity. In conjunction with physical training, meditation, breathing, acupressure and acupuncture techniques are employed
to improve and maintain health, develop internal power and retard the aging process.
Philosophically, Kuk Sool stresses
humility, self discipline, loyalty, and respect for others. Together, these four aspects of Kuk Sool provide the means for
attaining a long and healthy life.
